About

Testing since 2011, remaining a committed and proud non-technical manual tester who has made a successful career out of failing make software work – almost exactly like a user. On good days, building better software and preventing bugs from ever making it to code through the right questions, better conversations and early-as-possible feedback loops. As time goes on, focusing more on leadership, management and coaching – but always with a tester’s heart, curiosity and desire to go a little deeper.

Outside of testing I’m a graduate in English Literature and Philosophy, a lover of an increasingly diverse range of music, an advocate for adventurous travel on a shoestring (particularly Scandinavia, my second home – I very occasionally blog about this at my other blog, Nordic Home), and utterly devoted to my incredible kids and my wonderful wife, for whom I breathe at all.

I am learning Swedish, recently quit smoking, and like little more than exploring the woods and lakes and mountains of Britain, or if it’s raining (which it usually is) reading the exploits of my heroes Thoreau, Muir and – especially – Nansen. The woods and the tundra are my joint favourite places to be and whilst I have explored a lot, there is still much I hope to see in this lifetime.

Oh, and my name’s Stu. Nice to meet you.
